WELCOME TO TERROR TOWN

The second piece of processing work was one I was personally looking forward to for a while, anything! Well it had to be interactive in some way and be a form of media (e.g. interactive art display, game and many other little things). I chose to again use processing only because I had spent a lot of time using it over the past few months, and it felt like the correct platform for my interactive project. So the project, for my Principles of Interactive Media module I came up with the idea to design and implement a point and click adventure game inside of processing (and might I add it’s a spooky one oOo). Growing up around games such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, House of The Dead (whoops sorry PEGI) and point and click classics like Monkey Island and Sam & Max, gave me an understanding of what a user would want out of a horror set point and click game.

This time around the project was probably 70% Photoshop/Photo editing and 30% programming, this was mainly due to the amount of scenes needed for the game to have a decent run time. I decided to go with the approach of using real life image from in and around the university’s top notch campus (Central Hall didn’t need much editing to look in place with my project) and manipulating them in Photoshop to make this sort of facility look.

The look of each image has a very unique art style, going for the black and white look with only a few different colours showing through in full (usually red). This method was great as I could make an array in processing and load each image when needed using a tree, allowing for multiple different paths the users can take. This gave my project what I wanted, and made it work perfectly for what I needed. I think as a future upgrade I would look to maybe put some old style FMV sections in just to test out my video editing skills.
