Summary

I am a passionate designer and artist with an emphasis on graphic/motion design, looking break in to the industry and enhance my current skill set. I have been studying games development since 2013 and have always found myself using a UX/Design focuses way of working, when it came to planning and executing different projects.

Having worked on both 2D and 3D projects, I have picked up a number of different skills such as Design, Animation, UX, Programming and Project Management, which have all helped me develop an understanding for what is needed to work in the creative industry, and has also lead to some interesting opportunities. In the summer of 2017 I was awarded a scholarship with the YCCSA to work on a fully funded solo project based around mobile application, and how they can be used to teach. UX was a large part of this and the early stages were filled with me creating a number of personas and wireframes to suite the app. I am currently employed by the Yorkshire Soap Company as the company’s graphic designer, creating new and exciting product designs, and different pieces of visual design for both print and digital.

VR technology is a huge passion of mine and as a final year project I am currently investigating the different types of locomotion in VR and how they can change the gameplay experience.

Work Experience
The Yorkshire Soap Company - Graphic Design:
March 2018 - Present
Working as the graphic designer for YSC has been a very interesting experience, which has allowed me to bring my design focused way of working to a new sector.  Day to day I am tasked with creating new and interesting packaging design/layouts, label designs and social media/online content. This experience has had me working to specific briefs while also give me the freedom to be creative with my work.
Department of Theatre, Film and Television - Web Design and Maintenance
March 2017 - November 2017
Using my design focused way of working I was tasked with creating and redesigning a staff website, which would host all of the current information on the building. The website is used daily by the TFTV staff and is regularly maintained with updates.
York Centre for Complex Systems Analysis Scholarship
July 2017 - September 2017
I was successful enough to be offered a scholarship with the YCCSA here in York, to work on a research project around a particular topic, with that topic being “App Development for Game Based Learning in Chemistry”. As the only student on the project I was tasked with taking responsibilities for all the different aspects of the app, from the programming to the artwork. The experience was overall interesting and insightful, as it gave me a look into what an app development cycle looks like in the industry.
The Distance York - UI Design and 2D Animations
March 2017 - June 2017
My time at The Distance had me working on multiple live in house apps, for a number of different clients. Working with Adobe Illustrator I was able to craft designs that would be used as a basis for one of the apps in development. I also worked with Adobe After Effects to make effective 2D transition, effect, loading and selection motion graphics for a linguistics based app. My time at The Distance was a success, and has since lead to freelance 2D animation work
Interests
Gaming has always been one of the biggest passions in my life, from my first ever console (Dreamcast) to my current PC setup i have always enjoyed the magic of games and the variety they bring, with some of my favourite being classic arcade on-rail shooters. I love attending gaming related event such as EGX and Gamescom to get an early sneak peak into what is going on in the developer world of games, but to also feed my other passion of eSports.

I have been interested in eSports since late 2012 when I started playing League of Legends and even since my interest has grown into other games such as Counter Strike and Overwatch. In my spare time I do a lot of animating for personal projects, in order to excel and improve in 3D animation, and attended the Global Game Jam.

VR is another passion of mine and I am currently working on my dissertation project involving VR and its locomotion types in regards to how a user’s experience is altered. Away from the computer I enjoy swimming and cycling as my two main ways to keep fit, I find these two to be relaxing and enjoyable, while still keeping me active. On top of this i also play dodge ball while at university as a more social sport.
